Retaining Rings & Circlips

Types of Retaining Rings

Internal Retaining Rings

• Axially assembled into a housing or bore
• Installed by compressing the ring with pliers via lug holes
• Heavy-duty variants available for applications subject to vibration

External Retaining Rings

• Axially assembled onto a shaft
• Expanded with pliers via lug holes before snapping into place
• Heavy-duty versions available with increased thickness for vibration resistance

Side-Mount Retaining Rings

• Also known as C-Style (crescent) or E-Style retaining rings
• Radially assembled without lug holes
• Ideal for use in restricted spaces where a large shoulder is not required
• Available in heavy-duty and bowed designs

Crimp Retaining Rings

• Also referred to as X-Washers
• Installed by squeezing or crimping the ring
• Used in lighter-duty applications

Bowed Retaining Rings

• Available in internal and external configurations
• Designed with a curved profile to act as a spring
• Provides a tighter hold and compensates for endplay

Push-On Retaining Rings

• Self-locking design, pressed directly onto the end of a shaft
• Suitable for light-duty use where no groove is machined
• Available in multiple internal and external styles

Spiral Retaining Rings

• Axially wound into a groove without lug holes
• Available in single-turn or multi-turn versions
• Heavy-duty variants provide additional strength
